Second Grade Marketplace Success

One of the reasons I love the school our kids attend is all the creative projects they get to do! Our school is very entrepreneurial and tech driven with a strong STEM program, but at the same time, they provide all of the arts & sciences so, as the kids figure out what they love, our school has a program that will help them learn and grow in that area. In 2nd grade all the students are required to participate in Marketplace. They have 6 weeks to come up with an idea for a Marketplace store, selling a good or service. They have to name their store, price their items according to how they feel the good or service should be valued (1-3 tickets) and set up a storefront that K-5 get’s to visit and shop at during the day.

Last year Katelyn did Katie’s Kitchen and she made homemade southern biscuits with a recipe we tried for weeks to perfect. This year Brayden decided to do paper airplanes since he’s been perfecting his designs and often gets asks by friends at school to make one for them. He came up with the name of his store, HYPER PLANES, all by himself, not to mention he made 50 airplanes all on his own.

We did a fun photoshoot in our backyard with his places and put them into a Powerpoint to create graphics and a logo. He approved all photos and designs himself.

Here’s how his set up for his store turned out!! I think it’s so great! Look at how proud he looks of his Marketplace store; I can’t wait to hear how it went!

What kinds of fun projects do your kids get to do at school?
