Midsummer Night’s Dream 7th Birthday

It’s crazy to think that it’s already been a month since our baby girl turned seven and we celebrated with a Midsummer Night’s Dream themed birthday party at a local children’s bookstore in Balboa Island. Every year, a couple months before the kids birthdays, we sit down and start to think about the theme of the party. Katelyn really wanted a Tinkerbell or Fairy themed party — so playing off the idea of a magical birthday party complete with fairy dust, I went in search of the perfect location. I didn’t have to search far… Katelyn’s former TK and Kindergarten teachers recently retired and opened the most adorable children’s bookstore on Balboa Island. With windows streaming in light from each corner of the store and the perfect Land of Nod feel, I knew we could create something magical there.

My favorite part was how beautifully the decor came together. My amazing + talented friend, Erin helped me bring my vision to life with a trip to a local warehouse filled with every event planners desires from flowers to paper lanterns. She also created this amazing chalkboard wall inspired by Katelyn’s birthday invitation. I also partnered with an amazing local party shop called Where’s the Party. They designed the invitations, thank you notes, and added in all the amazing finishing touches. From silver star plates to sparkler candles to all the small delicate butterflies that gave the space exactly what it needed to give it a foresty feel.

As the girls arrived for the party they were gifted beautiful fairy wings covered in “fairy dust” and they created flower crowns with babies breath and ribbons. Katelyn had invited a couple of boys from her class to her party and they made paper masks of woodland creatures. Everything turned out so beautifully and all the kids looked adorable!

After flower crown making, taking photos and a spontaneous sing a long to Taylor Swifts, Shake it Off, the fairies and woodland creatures settled in for story time with Mrs. Mantei. Many of the children who attended the party had Mrs. Mantei as their TK teacher, like Katelyn, and it was hard not to get emotional listening to her read. It took me back to when Katelyn was in her class and just how much she means to us. We are so blessed that we can still visit our favorite former teachers for story time at the book store.

And, of course, you can’t have a party without cake, especially strawberry cake topped with fresh flowers and sparkler candles! I’m convinced that sparklers make every cake better.

I know I say this with every party that passes, but this one might be my favorite. It all came together so beautifully and that’s because of all the amazing people who also loved the vision for this party and helped me bring it to life. It truly was worth the labor of love to hear Katelyn talk about how much she loved it and how much fun she had with her friends.

I can’t wait to figure out how to top this one!
