Let’s talk about Microblading, baby!

I remember when microblading first became the “thing” to do a few years ago. I’ve always loved the idea of waking up with lash extensions and my brows looking amazing – I call this quest to being low maintenance. Though having gotten my fair share of tattoos over the years, I am a full advocate that when playing with needles and tattooing you always want to make sure whoever you’re submitting to, is capable of making you look amazing.

This is a big reason why I’ve waited so long to have my brows microbladed. I wanted to make sure that when I was ready, I had someone AMAZING to work with! I’ve been following Ashley’s work for almost a year now. I was so excited when I found her on Instagram! Even more excited when I realized she had created amazing brows for some of our mutual friends.

Ashley and I have been chatting back and forth since last summer and I finally bit the bullet and booked my appointment. Just so you know how incredibly talented she is, here are some of my favorite sets of brows she’s done. The shape of these ladies brows are similar to mine and gave me a good idea of how mine will look once my microblading is done.

It’s always important to do your research with any beauty treatment you do, and believe me I’ve talked to a lot of people and researched online. If you’re thinking about getting microblading done, here are 5 things to consider before booking your appointment

1. Microblading is not Permanent:

A series of small needles are used to deposit color into the upper dermis of your skin, therefore making the procedure semi permanent.    Essentially, the color is not deposited as deep as a tattoo, so you will have to have your brows touched up every couple of years.

2. Find the RIGHT Artist:

An artist can make or break your look. Just like finding a good hairdresser who can achieve the look and style you’re wanting, same thing goes for microblading. Follow the artists work, look for brows she’s done similar to the shape and color of your brows. Ask her lot’s of questions to make sure you’re comfortable before you commit.

3. Microblading is a Two Part Process:

You’ll go in for your initial appointment, which can take 1.5 -2 hours and once your brows heal (4-6 weeks), you’ll go back for a touch up.

4. Follow the Rules:

After care is very important. If you want your color to last, you need to follow the after care instructions your artist gives you for best long term results.

5. You have to take time off Working Out

This one was one of the reasons it’s taken me so long to get my brows done. Working out is a part of my daily routine and I hate to miss it. My day feels less complete. However, I feel like I can miss a few workouts to gain great brows! I made my appointment for a Wednesday, knowing that I usually rest on Thursday and the weekends. Fingers crossed I can be back at it next week!

Just so you know what I’m working with here’s how my brows look now. One side shows my brow without the help of a brow pencil and the other shows with.

I have to say I’m most excited to see how they look after and to not have to use a brow pencil to color them in everyday. I feel like my biggest struggle is getting them to look even. While I know our brows are sisters, not twins, it’ll be nice to have them looking a little more like twins. If you’re in the Orange County area, I highly recommend reaching out to and booking Ashely at OC Brow Babe.

Have you done microblading? What’s your biggest piece of advice?
