Peter Pan Collar Necklace
Peter Pan collars are a trend that just keep coming back… and I am totally ok with that.
Have you ever wanted a Peter Pan collar look but the top you own doesn’t have the collar? Today I get to show you how to sew your own Peter Pan collar necklace that can be easily added to any top or dress.
Supplies you’ll need:
About 1/4 yard of fabric
Coordinating and Invisible thread
Necklace chain and findings
Pencil + Paper
Let’s get started…
First, you’ll draft your collar shape. I took a sort of high-necked dress that I knew I’d want to wear my necklace with and traced the shape of the neckline. I then free-handed the shape of a Peter Pan Collar.
Once you have your collar drafted, add 1/4″ to each side of the drawing.. this is for seam allowance. Then cut out the pattern you made and grab your fabric. Fold your fabric in half and cut out two pattern pieces at a time, one will be facing up and one will be facing down. Do this twice, so you’ll end up with four cuts of fabric.
Once all of your pieces are cut out, you can sew them together. You’ll take two at a time, facing them right sides together and sewing almost all the way around, leaving about 1-2″ for turning. (I’ve found that its best if you leave the top pointy part open for turning).
When your pieces are sewn together, clip the seam allowance all the way around each of the collar pieces to make turning easier. Turn your collar pieces and topstitch where you left the small opening. Now you’re ready to sew it onto your necklace.
Using the chain-links of the necklace chain as a guide, sew the necklace using invisible thread and a hand sewing needle onto the collar pieces. Start in the middle and work your way to the top. When that piece is sewn to the necklace chain, do the same thing for the other collar piece until both collar pieces are securely sewn onto the necklace chain.
Add your necklace findings to the top of the chain and you are all set. Turn your necklace around and admire your beautiful work!
