Dear Brayden,

As I look into the next couple of days of celebration, my heart is both elated and broken. How has 4 years already flown by and I’m sitting in the wake of a celebration of yet another year that has passed. It seems like only yesterday we were headed to the hospital, 3 weeks early, for your arrival. You kept us on our toes even then. We weren’t ready, we didn’t have all of your precious little clothes washed or the diaper bag packed, but you didn’t mind. You knew that you needed to join us and you couldn’t wait any longer.

You changed our world…

with your smiles…

with your little toes that would curl as you feel asleep snuggled in my arms…

with your laughter…

with your i love you’s and your hold me’s….

You’ve always been my cuddler and have demanded my attention. Your love language is most certainly quality time and for that we are grateful. Grateful for the moments where you have helped me slow my life down, re-focus and understand what it truly means to love and be loved. Some of my favorite moments are the ones I spent rocking you as a baby, breathing in your sweet smells, listening to the sound of your soft breathing. I hope you will always be my little man. I hope you will always need your mommy by your side.

I pray that you know each moment of every day how much your Daddy and I love you.

And now you’re turning four… Four!

I pray …

…. that you will know Jesus always

…. that you will love deeply and with your whole heart

that you always treat your sister as your best friend. be her protector, her friend, her confidant when she feels she can’t talk to us. Watch out for her always

…. that you will open doors for ladies

…. pay for dates

…. work hard, but enjoy the important things in life

live your life with honor and integrity. Be a man of your word

… always look for ways you can help others.

…. be a blessing to those around you

…. give generously to those in need because God will reward you greatly for doing so.

… Go to college

… love your future wife and children in words and actions

…. always know you can call home anytime.

I know you’re only four and it may seem as though some of these things might be so far away, but I want you to be able to always have a place to find these words. A place where you can always find your home. You are loved, cherished, and a part of who I am as a mom. Thank you for making me a mommy and for always sharing your hugs and kisses with me.

And remember, I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always, as long as I live, my baby you’ll be.

We love you little man. Happy 4th Birthday!!

xo, Mommy
