A birthday weekend getaway
I just have to take a moment + say thank you so much for yesterday. There might have been tears of joy cried during multiple points of the day. This project has been a labor of love and passion for the past month and long before that when I was trying to find a new name for this chapter and I knew I loved it even before we officially launched it, but seeing your love for it too…. there are no words. Or maybe there are so many words, yet they all don’t see sufficient for how incredible the last 24 hours have been.
Last weekend, as were were finishing up the site design for this space, Kyle whisked me away to Ojai Valley Inn & Spa for my birthday weekend/ blog moon. Is that a word? It should be, I mean baby moon is. I mean I did birth a blog and when my host kept shutting it down ion Monday it did feel a lot like a painful labor of love. And while I did receive a few texts from friends remind me to sleep and play more than work, I took those words to heart and focused on being present in every moment of my weekend away. I cannot remember the last time Kyle and I took a weekend vacation, or even any kind of extended vacation away, so I soaked up every moment with him. He truly went all out to make me feel special. It felt like the whole resort knew it was my birthday from the moment we pulled up and they rolled out the red carpet. Turning 34 didn’t seem so bad.
We had incredible weather while we were there. Warm sunshine with a cool breeze that teases you is my favorite kind of weather to enjoy. Saturday morning I slept in till 10am!! Then we ordered room service for brunch and enjoyed it on the deck while overlooking Ojai valley. The hotel even spoiled me with birthday berries + mimosas. Any vacation that starts with a drink that includes Champagne is my favorite kind. I’m a champagne kind of girl for sure.
How incredible is that view?!
After brunch we headed decided to do some horseback riding and explore the valley. I know we could’ve hiked, but that’s a lot of work that I’d rather let the horse do. The ranch we went to was wonderful. They have over 150 beautiful horses and acres of land as far as the eye can see. I would show you more pictures, but it turns out that riding a horse and taking pictures with your cell phone is quite tricky. After horseback riding, we spend a couple hours at the pool and the headed back to the room to get ready for a late dinner. That’s the beauty of vacation, you can go to dinner at 8pm and miss the rush of people and all the families with small children. No I don’t dislike children, just ones that aren’t mine when I’m on vacation. Moms, can I get an amen?
The Spa and fitness center were the highlight of our trip. I’m totally going to give the hotel a free plug right now, but we seriously received the best experience and treatments at the Spa Ojai!! I mean I’ve never had a massage as good as the one I had last Friday. And can we talk about the facial I got on Sunday morning?! Oh my word!! The large and in charge wrinkle in the middle of my eyebrows, you know the one I cover with my bangs, umm ya, it’s faded! The skin care line they used was wonderful, I even bought the six week trial. I’ve been using it for 3 days and Kyle told me today my skin looked amazing! So there you have it, you will all need it too. I mean, come on, when you hubby notices without you asking him, it has to be amazing!
I also took a TRX class on Sunday and while it was challenging at times, I love it. I even stayed after class so I could practice my handstands and learn how to do one armed TRX push ups. Yup, I’m badass like that, but you’ll have wait to see those moves.
On Sunday we took our time heading home from our relaxing weekend and stopped at a local spot that several of the locals had recommended, Papa Lennon’s. It was the cutest spot downtown with an indoor/outdoor seating area scattered with rustic wood tables and ivy growing up all the walls. If you’re in the Ojai area, you must stop there and eat. Oh and be sure to try their gelato….. its delish.
While that last meal before heading home is always the hardest because the closer you get to home, the closer you are to reality, but we were so excited to pick up the kids and head out to dinner to celebrate with them too. And, I couldn’t wait to finish up last minute tweaks to the site so that we could share it with all of you. It’s so funny how going away and being away from your everyday can breathe new life into you and make you feel as though you’ve hit the refresh button. I really need to work on creating that space here at home too.
All in all it was a fantastic weekend and I’m already scouring my calendar for the perfect excuse to go back. Maybe for our 10 year anniversary in September?! I think that would be the perfect treat to look forward to.
It’s safe to say that I might be slightly addicted to vacationing there. 😉
How do you celebrate your birthday?
